The head coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a victory against Cameroon in Abuja on Monday.
In the first leg of their 2024 Olympic Games third-round qualifying fixture in Douala on Friday, the nine-time African champions played to a 0-0 draw with the Indomitable Lionesses.
Despite a controversial offside ruling that disallowed Jennifer Echegini’s 52nd-minute goal, Waldrum emphasized his team’s fearlessness, citing past performances against strong opponents.
He mentioned facing the European champions (England) in the World Cup, holding the Olympic gold medalists (Canada) to a draw, and securing a victory over Australia.
Waldrum acknowledged Cameroon’s efforts but asserted that there is no fear on the part of the Super Falcons.
The upcoming match against Cameroon is crucial, and a victory would propel Nigeria to face either African champions South Africa or Tanzania in the final round, with South Africa winning the first leg against Tanzania 3-0 on Friday.
