The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has assured residents that the issue of vandalism affecting critical national assets and infrastructure in the territory will soon be resolved.
Odumosu provided this assurance during his visit to the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, in Abuja on Friday.
He emphasized the commitment of the NSCDC to continue its efforts against criminal elements in the FCT, with a particular focus on vandals who undermine the citizens’ access to the benefits of democracy.
The Commandant specifically highlighted the eradication of vandalism and theft of public property, including manhole covers, street lights, traffic lights, roads, bridges, and water dams in the FCT.
Odumosu mentioned that since taking office, he initiated a campaign against vandals, resulting in several arrests within the city center, with some suspects already facing charges in court.
He acknowledged that while the battle against vandalism is ongoing, the NSCDC is determined to intensify efforts until it is completely eradicated in the FCT.
The Commandant also expressed his dedication to aligning with the NSCDC’s safe school program, aimed at ensuring the adequate protection of schools in the territory.
He sought the Chairman’s support for the Corps to achieve optimal performance and effectively fulfill its mandate as outlined in its Act.
In response, the AMAC Chairman pledged continuous support for the NSCDC, emphasizing the Corps’ proven capacity to work independently and collaboratively with sister agencies.
