Real Madrid forward, Karim Benzema has described FIFA as liars after Lionel Messi was named the 2022 best player at The Best Awards in Paris, France.

Messi beat Benzema and French teammate, Kylian Mbappe to win the FIFA best player award for the second time.

Benzema feels the accolade was given to the wrong person after his stellar campaign with Real Madrid in 2022, including winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles, finishing the year as the top scorer.

Reacting after the ceremony, Benzema posted a video of a man saying what is translated as ‘Good night, liars, you lie’ to his Instagram story.

The 34-year-old Real Madrid star missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup after suffering an injury weeks before the tournament in Qatar.

Although, he could have returned to the team before the final against Argentina, Benzema decided to stay at home amid rumoured fallout with coach, Didier Deschamps.

After the World Cup, he officially announced his retirement from international football.

Meanwhile, Messi starred at the tournament, winning the best player award as Argentina were crowned champions.

Mbappe finished the World Cup as top scorer with seven goals.

PSG players dominate FIFPro XI

There’s no denying PSG have world-class superstars, Flexyvibe also reported.

The French champions proved this at FIFA’s The Best Awards on February 27.

Three of PSG’s stars were named in the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 in 2022.
